Nigel Purchon graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Zoology, followed by a master's degree in Oceanography. In his earlier years, he created accurate and detailed drawings of littoral animals, as well as chalkboard diagrams to support his teaching of secondary school students. After retiring and experiencing a minor stroke, he began dedicating more time to experimenting with inks and watercolours, further developing his artistic practice.
