Robin Richmond was born in the United States and spent her formative years in Rome. She holds both a BA and an MA from Chelsea School of Art. Deeply inspired by the concept of "spirit of place," her work has evolved to include collage elements that bring a jewel-like, mosaic quality to her interpretations of ancient stones and minerals. She lives and works between London and rural France, maintaining studios in both locations.

Richmond has had an extensive teaching career, holding Visiting Professorships at the Universities of California, Yale, and London, as well as Camberwell School of Art. She is a Fellow of Morse College at Yale University and has served twice as Artist in Residence there.

An accomplished writer and illustrator, Richmond has authored five critically acclaimed books on art, including three for children and two for adults. She has also illustrated several children’s books and a cookbook.

Since 1994, she has devoted herself entirely to her international painting career, mounting over 41 solo exhibitions. Her works are housed in museum, corporate, and private collections worldwide. In 2018, she was elected Fellow of the Royal Watercolour Society. In 2024, her career was celebrated in "Common Ground," a major exhibition at the RWS Gallery, Whitcomb Street, Trafalgar Square, London.
