András Mengyán was born in 1945 in Békéscsaba, Hungary. He earned his degree with master grade in 1968 from the Hungarian Academy of Crafts and Design. A distinguished participant in numerous national and international exhibitions, his works are held in both public and private collections across Hungary and abroad. Mengyán’s creative practice has been the subject of critical essays, monographs, and reports throughout his career.

In recognition of his artistic achievements, he received the Dózsa Farkas András Design Prize in 2006, the Munkácsy Prize (a prestigious state award) in 2007, and a prize from the Kévés Gallery for Architecture and Art. That same year, he was admitted as a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and the Arts. In 2024, Mengyán was honored with the Prima Primissima Prize, one of Hungary’s highest cultural accolades. He lives and works in Budapest.
