Peter Gray is a self-taught artist based in County Fermanagh, Ireland, working primarily in acrylic. His artistic journey began at the age of seventeen, when an art teacher took a chance on him despite his lack of prior experience. Though initially discovering he was only average across most mediums, he was encouraged to try acrylic painting—a moment that proved transformative. His first painting, a portrait of Ray Charles seated at a black piano in a dimly lit, smoky room, marked the beginning of his lifelong commitment to visual storytelling.
For many years, Gray painted in his spare time while pursuing a more conventional path, believing it essential for stability. However, his true sense of fulfillment remained rooted in the creative process. Eventually, he made the decision to step away from that life and fully embrace painting. Today, he dedicates himself entirely to his art, exploring themes of solitude, mood, and emotional nuance through layered acrylic compositions.
