Born in 1971 in Merseburg/Saale in the former GDR, Susanne Witzig exhibited a natural talent for the arts from a young age. However, growing up in a system that offered little support for her artistic inclinations, Witzig faced criticism for her unconventional approach to painting. Her early diagnosis of a chronic illness at the age of 12 severely limited her physical and emotional space, forcing her into a conventional career path and stifling her creative expression.
By 2015, Witzig’s chronic illness led to a significant physical and mental breakdown, leaving her 90% confined to a wheelchair. This period of intense hardship, including extensive clinical stays and a long journey toward recovery, became a catalyst for profound personal transformation. Embracing her passion for art as a means of healing, Witzig found that abstract painting allowed her to express her innermost emotions and insights. Her work now vibrantly reflects her journey of self-discovery, representing an enthusiastic affirmation of life through love, inspiration, and creativity.
