SOU is a contemporary abstract artist based in Sapporo, Japan. With over two decades of experience as a spatial designer in architecture and interior design, he transitioned to painting to explore the inner flows of memory, light, and emotion. His work channels unseen energies into visual form, using layered materials such as acrylic, resin, metal powders, and crushed glass to evoke luminosity and depth.
SOU’s work has been exhibited internationally, with presentations in Italy, Spain, Singapore, and Vietnam. In 2025, he exhibited at Art Expo New York and was selected for the Collectors’ Choice exhibition at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea. He is slated to participate in Agora Gallery’s I Love New York exhibition in October 2025 and will hold a solo exhibition at ARTI FACT in Manhattan in May 2026.
In Japan, SOU has been featured in the “Gen-ten” exhibition at the National Art Center Tokyo and has held solo shows in both Ginza and Sapporo. His practice also includes collaborative projects, such as the “Prayer Art Project” with Kyoto-based studio Maruki.
For SOU, art is a meditative act—an attempt to visualize the intangible and give form to the soul’s movement. His works are not only abstract compositions but spiritual reflections that invite viewers into a shared space of inner resonance and contemplation.
