Stephanie Maurer is a Seattle-based visual artist working primarily in oil on canvas. She aims to depict the vitality of life through vivid color and the interplay of light and shadow. Employing a thick, textured application of paint, she brings energy and movement to her subjects—whether human figures, interiors, or landscapes.
Originally from Minneapolis, Maurer relocated to the West Coast at the age of six. Her first encounter with the Pacific Ocean and its radiant sunset hues sparked a lifelong fascination with vibrant color, which remains central to her practice. An emerging artist, she has studied at the Gage Academy of Art and is currently pursuing atelier training to further develop her technical foundation.
Maurer’s early work followed a traditional, representational approach. Her current work explores the colors and textures of life across portraiture, figurative studies, interiors, and landscapes. In her portrait and figurative paintings, she uses representation as a point of departure to investigate the nuances of the human form. Her use of saturated color and bold shadow invites viewers into a sensory and emotional experience.
Her landscapes and interiors aim to convey the feeling of being immersed in nature or at home, utilizing texture and light to evoke atmosphere and intimacy. Deeply committed to community, Maurer has served on an Arts Foundation board for over 25 years and has been involved with the Pilchuck Glass School’s Auction Committee since 2017.
Her work has been featured in the following exhibitions:
