Amber Setchel is a landscape abstract artist based in Asheville, NC, who works primarily with acrylics and pencils in every possible color.
Her artistic journey began at a young age. Growing up in rural western New York before the internet era, she spent countless hours outdoors, encouraged by her mother to explore the world beyond the front door. These early experiences, immersed in the shapes, colors, and textures of nature, laid the foundation for her creative path.
During high school, her family relocated to Atlanta, GA, where she went on to earn a BFA in Painting from Georgia State University. Although she spent several years working in finance, she continued to paint part-time. The pandemic inspired a move to Asheville, where she now displays and sells her work full-time.
The breathtaking landscapes of western North Carolina—reminiscent of her rural New York childhood—continue to inspire her. She embraces vibrant color, organic shapes, textures, layering, and movement, using mainly acrylics and incorporating pencil marks for added texture.
